Our ProBono client, Self chec, is an old fashioned non-profit, working to raise awareness about your body to help catch and prevent cancers that can be detected early like breast, testicle and skin cancer.
We needed to move beyond awareness to actionable behavior modification. So we created the sister organization Coders vs. Cancer. C>C hosted its inaugural hackathon against breast cancer in the late summer of 2015. A women in tech theme added an additional layer of passion and drive needed to get through a marathon weekend. Thanks to the network of partners and sponsors and the social presence we were able to build, we were able to offer up a $10,000 prize, entry into the NIH's shark tank with Memorial Sloan Kettering, Cornel Medical and Rockefeller University, guaranteed interviews at a number of health tech firms, office space and mentors to develop the winning program and much, much more. Circly.org, the winner is now growing as a company, sourcing new employees, creating a 5 year business development plan, and moving on to another hackathon prize, the Blueprint Health accelerator program.
